800 Avondale
Peter Hoffmann designed and built this house in Travis Heights in 2005.
The house consists of 2500 sf on three levels with a rooftop terrace featuring panoramic views of downtown Austin.
As his first residential project, this house afforded him a unique opportunity to test ideas about design, sustainability and cost control.
The house was a success in all three areas.
The quality of the design was reflected when It sold in 2009 in the midst of a major recession for twice the price it was built for.
Sustainability was validated by the performance of the structure. With extensive glazing and major views facing west, electric bills never exceeded $140/month during the height of the Texas summer.
Construction cost was $125/sf
